in which an autistic boy’s parents are kidnapped at gunpoint. For the whole episode, Spencer is trying to connect and communicate with the boy, which is no easy thing to do, especially in only one day. Eventually, Spencer is able to connect with him through music/the piano. After sitting at the piano with the boy for a few minutes, the boy reaches down and grabs Spencer’s hand so Spencer can play part of the piece with him. I literally started sobbing. As a musician and someone who has worked with children with autism before, this was one of the most touching and beautiful scenes I have ever seen. A child with autism initiating contact with someone else, even their own parents, is, depending on the child, a HUGE HUGE HUGE deal. And to watch them connect through music… yeah, I was a wreck.
